  • The Plateau Coalition of Business and Professional Associations (PLACOBPA) organized a Gubernatorial Debate for candidates of front-line political parties on the Plateau in 2019.
These debates were organized in collaboration with the Nigeria Elections Debate Group (NEDG), with support from Centre for International Private Enterprise (CIPE) Washington DC, and in partnership with Media Partners and support groups. In 2019, the Debate was held on the 12th of January 2019 at MEES Palace Events Centre Rayfield Jos, before a live-non participatory audience. The debate was broadcasted live on Television, Radio and other various media platforms. The Debate lasted for two hours. Questions covered areas of interest and concern to the people of plateau state. PLACOBPA, a non-partisan, non-political, non-religious body is made up of hardworking people from varied works of life in the state. PLACOBPA chose not to stand idle and watch people lament and complain instead of making meaningful contributions and engaging their future leaders on many key issues of interest to the people of Plateau State. It therefore called on the good people of Plateau to ensure that they fully participated in that debate towards ensuring a peaceful, credible and transparent electoral process. PLACOBPA called on the people of Plateau State to say no to violence, thuggery and electoral malpractices. The objectives of the debate were to create a forum where all candidates vying for the position of Governor of Plateau State would present their manifestos to the people and respond to some questions on critical issues, which would need to be addressed to put the state on a path of economic growth. 7 aspirants attended out of the 12 targeted.
